HOMECOMING

I sit at the Bangkok Airport alone

scrolling through my iPhone

searching for a last minute hotel.

Eavesdropping with excitement on

non-English conversations

I could mostly comprehend.

A room close to the metro

too nervous to call a taxi on my own.

I am another Thai face

returning home from a work trip

maybe a vacation.

For now I am like everyone else

but if I open my mouth, they will know

I am different

and for now I wanted to know

what it would be like

If we never left.
